Congratulations to Tharp Plumbing for the award of the Publix Distribution Center with general contractor, Whiting Turner. The ten building and over 1.1 million square foot facility required a thorough and detailed proposal. After more than a 7 month bid process, Tharp Plumbing will soon have a presence on the 100 acre property located near the intersection of 528 and Goldenrod, formerly known as Lee Vista and utilized for harvesting hay. This large project will display Tharp Plumbing’s skill to coordinate a multi-building project as well as their craftsmanship to install numerous specialty plumbing systems. 1,200 feet of trench drain will be installed in two buildings, requiring precision of installation and cooperation with other trades. Tharp Plumbing’s crew will also install over 5,500 feet of Sch. 80 stainless steel piping for a truck wash system to meet over a 3,500 psi demand. The Publix Distribution Center was bid by estimator, Chris Joyce and will be run by foreman, Bernie Leroy and managed by Dave Horn and Michael Williamson.
Congratulations to Chris Joyce on his promotion to Chief Estimator. Chris started with the company in January 1997 as a helper before gaining his journeyman license and being promoted to a foreman; he worked in the field for 11 years before transitioning to our estimating department. His estimating abilities have contributed to us being awarded numerous large jobs and schools over the last four years. Using the computerized estimating system, he has helped bring the company to the forefront of industry technology. We are proud of his many accomplishments and look forward to many great things to come.
Tharp Plumbing won the prestigious Eagle Award from ABC for the Golden Oaks Clubhouse at Disney with the Weitz Company. The Eagle award is the highest award given in the Excellence in Construction Awards Competition and like projects are judged on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, proper installation, evidence of extra ordinary effort, owner satisfaction, and other considerations. Foreman Steve Thatcher and plumber Chris Meeks made the largest contributions to the job, which was estimated by Chris Joyce and managed by Dave Horn. We congratulate them for being “Purveyors of Fine Plumbing”.
Congratulations to Tharp’s Dameion Maharaj on his graduation from the PIPE apprenticeship program; he also received a perfect attendance award for his entire senior year! Elia Velis recorded the highest GPA for his second semester of his sophomore year at PIPE & also received a 100% on his final exam!
